Our Ambassadors

We are forever grateful to everyone who has helped make Kalavida a hub for the sport in the region.  Our roots grew through the support of our first board of directors (our first customers) who have since become long-time friends of the shop.  They, along with everyone who has supported us, are in their own way ‘Ambassadors’ for our shop and more importantly, for the the sport of Surfing and Paddleboarding.

We continue to build strong relationships with the fine folk who support Kalavida and through the many events that we organize – such as the Kalamalka Classic.  We have also connected to a number of individuals who’s efforts reach beyond the ebb of their local paddling scenes.  We respect their efforts and help support them on their collective journeys.

AVAvery Bridge, Vernon BC – Future Canadian Champion?
Our in-house aspiring paddleboard athlete, Avery loves every aspect of the sport. When she’s not helping out at the shop or immersed in studies, ‘AV’ can be found on the lakes and ocean chasing waves, races and going with the wind.  in 2015, she attended events across BC and the US including the Gorge Paddle Challenge in Hood River, Oregen where she won Sunday’s downwind race.  Watch for her paddling her new Starboard soon.

Lina Augaitis, Coldstream Athlete, Ambassador for SUP
headshot-linaLina came to the first Kalamalka Classic in 2010 and discovered her new career… of course she didn’t jump straight in – It took Lina 4 years of racing, paddling and traveling to fully plant the seed.  In the winter of 2013, she left her job as a teacher in Vancouver and declared herself a Professional SUP athlete.  She has gone on to win the ISA World Title, the overall Battle of the Paddle crown and the World Series Championship. Not bad for year one eh?

headshot-normNorm Hann, Squamish – Standup for Great Bear (www.normhann.com)
Norm is most notably Canada’s most iconic paddler and his efforts to expose the environmental threats to the Great Bear Rainforest have helped raise international awareness for the coast. Of course, he’s a pretty darn good racer when time permits but now focuses more on his Expeditions, Instructor Training and Surf Camps in Tofino and around the globe.

DaveSmilin‘Smilin’ Dave Allen, Kelowna

With more stoke than a village of surfers, Dave can be found paddling at any given time during the year. His genuine enthusiasm for all things water has helped get many of his friends into the sport and Dave can also be found winter training on OC’s to keep his game fresh.

Oh, and the guy is also a pretty talented artist and Ink master.

Bob Purdy, Ucluelet
– SUP Pioneer
One of the true pioneers for the sport in the region, Bob has paddled the full length of Okanagan Lake in support of Paddle for the Planet. The environmental movement has become a yearly event, held in locations around the world.

You’ll find Bob on the water every day of the year… in fact he’s now working towards his 1,900 consecutive day on the water.
